The University Grants Commission (UGC) has urged the colleges, Universities across the country to give admission to all those students who were allotted seats through online counselling that was conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the Prime Minister Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS).

As per the official notification, UGC has also directed the institutions to not charge fees above the fee that has been fixed by the Ministry of Education. 

“During academic session 2020-21, a number of grievances were received from PMSSS students, who were allotted seats online counselling conducted by AICTE,” UGC said in the statement.

The Central government is offering scholarships to students of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh to study in other states’ colleges. The government aim is to provide them exposure to the culture, language, and livelihood of the other states. AICTE is responsible for implementing the scheme.

AICTE began online registration for the Special Scholarship Scheme (SSS) for the Class 12 pass students of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh for the 2021-22 academic year on September 6 and closed the registrations on September 15.

Around 10,000 Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh students had applied in the first four days for the PM scheme. As per the scheme, the students who are studying online from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh are given Rs 20,000 per semester or Rs 40,000 per year. Along with that, those students who stay in hostels, which are subject to a maximum ceiling of Rs 1,00,000 per year, are given Rs 40,000 as well as Rs 10,000 for monthly expenses.
