NIOS Exam Fees 2026-27 - The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) charges Rs 300 per subject as the exam fee for 10th and 12th Class. If a subject has a practical, students pay Rs 150 more for it. The exam fee is not the same as the admission fee. Students must pay it every time they want to sit for an exam.
For the October-November 2026 exams, NIOS released the exam fee notice on May 21, 2026. Students who missed the deadline got one last chance on August 3, 2026, with a late fee of Rs 1,600. The date sheet for these exams came out on October 8, 2026.
Students who plan to take the March-April 2027 exams can check the fee dates given in the NIOS Prospectus 2026-27. NIOS has not released the notice for that exam yet.

Students who failed in the last exam get their own window without late fee. For the March-April exam, it is from December 1 to 20. For the September-October exam, it is from June 1 to 20.

NIOS Class 12 public examinations are conducted twice in a year. The first exam is held in March/April and 2nd exam in Oct/Nov.
There are two cycles namely Block I and Block II for the NIOS exam Class 12. One in March-April and the other in October/November. The duration of NIOS Class 12 exams are a total of three hours. Subject Limit for NIOS 12th Class Students
NIOS has a two-year gap rule for 12th Class. To get a pass certificate, there should be a gap of two years after passing 10th Class. If a student does not have this gap, they can choose only up to four subjects for the exam. This includes the subjects they have already passed. So, 12th Class students should choose their subjects carefully before paying the fee.
NIOS Exam Fee vs Admission Fee
These are two different fees. Many students get confused between them. The admission fee is paid only once, when a student joins NIOS. It does not cover any exam. After admission is confirmed, the student must pay the exam fee for each exam they want to take.

NIOS Admission Fee 2026-27 (Stream 1, Without Late Fee)
The admission fee under Stream 1 depends on the class and the student’s category:
