Tamil Nadu schools, colleges closed in several districts amid heavy rainfall
Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has also issued a yellow alert in 11 districts of Tamil Nadu for today. As per the Met Centre, heavy rains are expected to pour over Tamil Nadu due to a depression prevailing over the southeast Bay of Bengal.
Tamil Nadu Schools Closed: Schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu are closed today in Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts due to heavy rainfall. Schools and colleges will remain closed today, February 2, 2023 in view of heavy rainfall in the state, according to a local daily. Orders regarding the closure of schools and colleges in Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts has been passed by the respective District Magistrates.

"Due to the weather system prevailing over the Bay of Bengal, there will be heavy rains followed by thunderstorms in the next two days in 11 districts of the state,” stated P Senthamarai Kannan, Scientist at the Regional Meteoreological Centre, RMC.
According to IMD, districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Myladuthurai, Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Kanniyakumarai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Sivaganga districts of the southern state are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
As for Northwest India, IMD has stated that normal rain would take place in February. Coldwave days in this region of India are also expected to reduce.
Earlier also, the authorities of several districts ordered the closure of Tamil Nadu Schools and colleges due to heavy rains. In December 2022, schools had been closed due to excessive waterlogging, flooding and other issues.
