To be eligible for admission to the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) course in Tamil Nadu, candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination from a recognised board. While preference is given to students from the Science stream (with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English), students from Arts and Commerce streams are also eligible to apply. General category candidates must have secured a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination, while SC/ST candidates are eligible with a minimum of 35%. The minimum age for admission is 17 years as on 31st December of the admission year, and there is currently no upper age limit as per the government rules. Both male and female candidates are eligible for the GNM program. Applicants must be medically fit to pursue the course. The duration of the GNM course is three years, including a mandatory six-month internship.
