GCT Coimbatore is associated with Anna University and follows the Tamil Nadu state level admission procedures. After admission to B.Tech, students are required to participate in Tamil Nadu Engineering Entrance (TNEA) counselling, based on their performance in the 12th level examination. Generally, M.Tech candidates have to go through GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test) conducted by Anna University.

For B.Tech Civil Engineering at Government College of Technology one has to get near 20000 for the admissions. In 2024 the cutoff for TNEA was 19901 and previous year it was 20161. One has to take part in TNEA general counselling for this.
