On August 8, 2011, the Indian Institute of Mass Communication Aizawl, or IIMC Aizawl, was officially opened as the East Regional Centre of IIMC. Numerous international, national, and regional news agencies, including Reuters, WION, PTI, The Times of India, The Indian Express, Mathrubhumi, and Malayala Manorama, employ IIMC Aizawl students. IIMC Aizawl currently only has two course options. At present, IIMC Aizawl operates out at Aizawl University's temporary campus. The institute will soon be home to an impressive 8-acre campus with media labs, a large library with a rich collection of books, and all the other amenities needed. Separate off-campus hostel is provided by IIMC Aizawl for boys and girls.
