Although they have improved, MBA placements at the University of Mumbai's Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) are still comparatively low when compared to full-time programmes. Compared to some higher-ranked institutions, IDOL provides less guarantees for students looking to enter the workforce, but it still offers opportunities with a placement rate of between 30 and 40 percent. The highest package available in 2023 was for Rs 25 LPA, while the average salary offered was in the range of Rs 2-3 LPA. These numbers show some promise for competitive pay, but they are not as high as those at other universities. Furthermore, placement availability may differ based on specific student profiles and industry demand. In contrast, full-time MBA placements reported a higher average salary of INR 23.07 LPA, with a sizeable share obtained through pre-placement offers, per a 2022 NMIMS Mumbai Placements report. This striking contrast draws attention to the disparities in resources and opportunities between open learning or distance learning formats, such as the MBA programme offered by IDOL, and traditional full-time programmes.
