Handloom Training institute soon to be launched in West Bengal

West Bengal will soon get a handloom training institute.

Mr. Manas Bhutia, State Textile and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister, has announced that the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) will soon to be launched in the Nadia district of West Bengal. The institute will have short-term and long-term training programmes for prospective technical personnel in the handloom sector.

The minister has stated that there are about 7.5 lakh handloom workers in the state and they will get numerous benefits after the opening of the institute. The proposed institute for the handloom training will be set up at Shantipur in Nadia district.

At present, there are five handloom training institutes in the country- at Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), Salem (Tamil Nadu), Guwahati (Assam), Jodhpur (Rajasthan) and Bargarh (Odisha).
