About 1.2 lakh students appeared for mathematics and biology papers, wherein 70,000 wrote the medical exam

KCET 2012The Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) for undergraduate medical and engineering courses began on Monday, May 21. Conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) as a gateway to colleges and universities of Karnataka for admissions in various undergraduate courses like medical, dental, engineering, and architecture.

 

About 1.2 lakh students appeared for mathematics and biology papers, wherein 70,000 wrote the medical exam. This year medical students have got a reason to cheer as 150 more medical seats are available for admission in Karnataka colleges.

 

The exam is taking place at 248 centres across the state. This is the first time when the invigilators were appointed randomly by the deputy commissioners, 248 observers, 496 special invigilation squad members, 248 custodians and around 7,500 invigilators were said to have been deployed to take care of the operations at various examination centers. In conversation with Deccan Herald, S.A Ramdas, Minister for Medical Education said that this year the state government is planning to conduct a special round of counseling for the undergraduate courses and it will appeal to the Supreme Court for the same. This will help to stop any misuse of the surrendered seats by the college management. (Read full story)
