Arun Chaitanya, a B.Tech (CSE) student at IIT-H bagged the highest salary of Rs 35 lakh p.a.

The first placement session at Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) that started in the last week of December 2011 is going on impressively.

 

Out of the 156 students registered for placement at IIT-H, 115 students from the first B.Tech batch and second PG (Masters) batch have been placed, reported Deccan Chronicle. The placement season will go on till April-end.

 

Dr G.V.V. Sharma, faculty-in-charge, placements, IIT-H, told Deccan Chronicle that the proportion of outgoing students with a job in hand will increase by the end of the month as many students are looking to apply for PSUs off-campus.

 

According to the report, the highest salary offered so far is Rs 35 lakh p.a. which was bagged by Arun Chaitanya, a B.Tech (CSE) student. Offered by Works Applications, an ERP software firm based in Tokyo, this is the highest package offered to a student from the eight new IITs that were established in 2008 along with IIT-H. The average salary stood at Rs 7 lakh per annum.

About fifty companies participated in the placement process. Majority of the students who got placed in these companies were from Computer Science and Engineering department bagging the most coveted jobs. Recruiters included globally reputed organizations like Amazon, Microsoft IDC, Deloitte and PayPal.

 

Students from other departments like Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering were recruited by Nvidia, Xilinx, HP, Bharat Petroleum, Mahindra Satyam, 3DPLM, etc. (Read more...) Apart from this, third-year B.Tech students also bagged summer internships at prestigious firms.

 

Success stories this placement season are also coming from the management field. Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM-B) recently completed its placement session where top industry players offered more 400 jobs to 370 students. Top recruiters include Accenture, Airtel, A.T. Kearney, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Deloitte, Flipkart, IBM Consulting, ICICI, Lodha group, etc. On the other hand, IIM-A placement proved successful both in terms of money and employers with average salary package ranging between Rs 22 lakh to Rs 27 lakh.  (Read full story)
