Bangalore University will start four-year integrated Bachelor of Science
Bangalore University will start an integrated Bachelor of Science (BS) course from the academic year 2010-11, to attract more students to basic sciences. The duration of the course will be four years.
The committee formed by the university in this regard has prepared the guidelines, syllabus and modalities. After the completion of
the course, students can take an MS degree within one year and PhD in two years, said sources.
The course will give the students a chance to study social science and engineering subjects along with science subjects, said the source.
“15% of the course content is from the humanities, and the rest will be divided between science and social science subjects. Students will get an opportunity to learn foreign languages as well,” said the sources.
“We have decided to start this course after a discussion with the national bodies working in the field of science in the city like the Indian Institute of Science. The interest in science is declining among students and we need to attract them,” said Dr N Prabhu Dev, vice-chancellor, Bangalore University.
“Another reason behind introducing this course is to encourage multi-discipline awareness among students,” he said. The admission procedure for this course will be based on merit.
There will be 100 seats for the course, of which 80 will be distributed among the affiliated colleges and 20 reserved for the university. Of these 20 seats, 10 will be in the management quota.
The university will soon invite applications from interested colleges to start the course. A high power committee will be set up to verify their applications and select the colleges.
