There are ten scholarships on offer to enable academics, writers and translators to spend between two and three months at selected universities.

Details: There are ten scholarships on offer to enable academics, writers and translators to spend between two and three months at selected universities where they can devote themselves to their own work and to interacting with colleagues. The fellow is expected to contribute to the work of the host institution by, for example, leading a seminar in which they present their research or writing.


Who can apply: The candidate must be an Indian citizen living in India, aged between 25 and 45 years (except for translator fellowships for which there is no upper age limit), have completed postgraduate studies in their area of specialization and/or have between 5-7 years professional or academic experience; write a proposal stating clearly what they want to do at the host institution and how they plan to use the experience on return to India.

Details: Every year 10 fully funded awards are given. These are to give practitioners early in their careers a chance to gain wider experience and exposure or to study. The balance between arts and heritage conservation varies from year to year depending on demand and performance at interview.


Who can apply: A candidate must be an Indian citizen living in India, aged between 25 and 38 years, have a first degree or diploma or professional qualification in their specialization. Applicants with significant work experience are preferred and must not have received a Charles Wallace grant within the last 5 years

Name of scholarship: Gates Cambridge Scholarship


Details: When selecting Gates Scholars, the Trust looks for students with enthusiasm, robustness of intellect, a willingness to engage and an appropriate humility that comes from an awareness that nothing is ever really simple. The competition is quite stiff. Seven thousand eligible applicants applied for admission and funding last year, out of which only 55 were given the funding.


Who can apply: Candidates may be citizens of any country outside the United Kingdom, may apply to study any subject available at the University of Cambridge, may apply to pursue three year PhD, one-year post-graduate course, MSc or MLitt (two year research only degree), or the three- year degree, MBBChir Clinical Studies. One must be able to show evidence of high academic achievement, leadership potential, social commitment and a good fit with Cambridge.

Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships


Details:
This is meant for students who want to pursue doctoral studies at St John’s College, University of Cambridge. Candidates for these scholarships are selected through a process of short listing from the applications received by the British Council, followed by personal interviews, which will be held in New Delhi. The scholarship covers academic fees, international airfare, monthly stipend to cover living expenses and UK Visa.


Who can apply: The applicant should be an Indian national with a valid Indian passport and currently based in India, below 35 years of age as on December 15, 2009. S/he should not have a significant exposure to UK education or received UK government funding. S/he should hold a Master’s (postgraduate) degree from a reputed/recognised India university/institution with a First Class award (UG and PG) in the relevant subject/field. Evidence of leadership qualities, which will be assessed from personal statements e.g. extracurricular activities and/or evidence of having made a difference to the country/society/participation in symposia in the relevant subject, or peer reviewed publication in the area.


She must be fluent in spoken and written English and must be keen to pursue and should have identified a full time Doctoral Research degree from the University of Cambridge commencing on September/October 2010.

Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship for leadership development


Details: These fellowships are for one to two years. The fellowship will provide J-1 visa support; round-trip airfare from fellow’s home city to the host institution in the US; Funding for tuition and fees, living and related costs, and accident and sickness coverage as per U.S. Government guidelines. The funding may not cover all costs and the scholar may need to supplement grant benefits with other resources. Each applicant should choose one field of study that matches his/her chief area of interest among the following areas — arts and culture management including heritage conservation and museum studies, business administration, communication studies, conflict resolution, economics, environment, public administration, urban and regional planning and women’s studies.
Who can apply: The program is for highly motivated individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities, have completed the equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree, have at least three years professional work experience, and are committed to return and contribute to their communities. Candidates should be in the age group of 25- 30 years.
