COVID-19: IGNOU donates one day's salary to PM CARE

Indira Gandi National Open University has said that its employees across the country will contribute their one-day salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
Indira Gandi National Open University has said that its employees across the country will contribute their one-day salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.
All our employees, including teachers and staff across the country, will be contributing their one day salary to the government to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, an IGNOU said in a statement.
Professor Nageshwar Rao, Vice-Chancellor,
IGNOU said, the university wholeheartedly wants to contribute to this cause to fight this global pandemic. It is our duty to help the government in this hour of crisis. It is the time when we all need to come together for the betterment of the nation and society.
The retired IGNOU employees have also been asked to contribute a one-day pension for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund (PM CARES).
Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC), the higher education regulator, has also requested all vice-chancellors of universities, directors, and principals of the colleges to ask their teaching and non-teaching staff to come forward and contribute.
The PM CARES is a relief fund started by the government to combat the present situation or any emergency arising in the future. It has been set up as a public charitable trust. The trust is been headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and its members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
To help the government in this, educational fraternity-like Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and many others, have come forward and contributed from their respective salaries.
