Engineering Admissions 2014: 9 items to pack for your college

The academic sessions at most of the engineering institutes across the country has commenced or is soon to commence. And with that a roller-coaster ride - filled with fun, excitement and a lot of study - awaits the thousands of future engineers.

Besides being important moment for all these freshers, it also is the time to prepare oneself mentally and emotionally as they would now spend a couple of years in the hostel, far away from home.

There have been times, where hosteliers at these institutes, arrive with massive boxes and suitcases only to realize that they have carried too much or forgot something or the other. Packing bags for college is an usual affair but packing them with what is the question here!

Bringing in right items makes a lot of difference. Not only does it give you a hassle free start but also keeps you away from all the worries that involves the use of everyday essentials.

Thus, to help you pack the must haves right items we decided to compile a list of the same:

1.       Mattress/ Bedding:

This is one of the most important items you should carry as an hostelier. Though the institute will provide you a cot to sleep in, but its your responbility to carry a mattress/bedding along with you to the institute. However, if carrying the same is not a possibility for you, then, there are vendors selling mattresses at nominal rates in and around the hostel areas through whom you can buy a decent mattress.

Besides this, also take along a pair of bedsheets, pillows, comfortors, bedspreads etc.

2.       Attire

Carrying both  - formal and informal clothes is a necessity for a fresher. While casual/informal clothes can be used for parties, hangouts, or attending classes, formal clothes are a must for first week orientation sessions, photo sessions, and allied events.

Shoes also form a very important part of the must haves list for engineering students. Make sure you carry a pair of formal shoes along with your casual footwear.

3.       Novels

Carrying two-three books of your choice might just help you through your first yearat the institute. It’s a known fact that every college has its own well-stocked library, but its always better to have a copy of your own favourite book.

Carrying basic stationary is always good like old exam notes, Pencil Box, Stapler, Paper Pins, Scissor, Pen Stand, Metallic Scale, Highlighter, Tape, Fevicol & fevistick, Lock & Key, rough books etc.

This is another important thing to pack for hosteliers. Things like basic medicines (pain killers, crocin, aspirin etc), bandages, mosquito repellant etc are things one should have handy. You never know when the need arises.

6.       Toiletries

This is something that need not be told but should be known to every student. Remember, you would be sharing your bathroom and laundry facilities with other students as well and thus need to carry things that are only for your personal use. These include things like towels, soap, shampoo, shaving cream and razors, tissues, laundry basket/bag, detergent etc.

7.       Important documents

Original and photocopies of socuments like exam admit cards/ admit card for which you are joining the college, acceptance letter, offer Letter, Class XII Mark sheet, Class XII Passing Certificate, Domicile Certificate (Add Others which are specified), passport sized photographs should not be missed and ensure you have them all together at one place.  These help you apply for various scholarships, awards etc conducted at institutes all round the year.
