Forensic science: A Programme for Answering Questions of Interest to Legal System
Forensic science is a programme of interest to inquisitive & adventurous minds. There has been observed great progress in this domain. Various programmes in forensic science are offered by a large number of colleges & universities thereby enabling huge multitude of students sharpen their analytical skills & attain excellence in the same as their global counterparts.
Forensic science is a challenging field for people with analytical & diagnostic bent of mind for investigation of criminal cases. This laboratory-based profession calls for the implementation of scientific principles learned at school & college level for investigation of criminal cases. Surinder Nath, Head, Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi said, "Freshers can get jobs as laboratory assistants and technicians and those with some experience can easily progress to academics."
There is a new entrant in the list of institutes, which offer programmes in forensic science; the latest being Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU). This university offers a super specialized post graduate degree course coupled with one-year dissertation, and has an intake capacity of 35 students. A certificate course in criminology and forensic science is soon to be launched by the university.
Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science is one of the oldest institutes to offer a Master's degree in forensic science. A common entrance test to screen students for this course will be held from this year onwards.
