GATE 2015: Basic features of the exam

The notification for GATE(Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2015 was released recently. To be conducted by IIT(Indian Institute of Technology) Kanpur this year, the exam will be conducted on January 31, 1, 7, 8 and February 14. The registrations for the same will commence on September 1 and will continue till October 1, 2014.

The exam for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an Online Computer Based Test (CBT) and will comprise some questions for which students will need to enter numerical answers using the virtual keypad. However, the rest of the questions will be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type. Please note that Biometric information (Photograph and Fingerprints) for randomly selected students may be captured before the commencement of the exam.

  • The exam will be held during forenoon and afternoon sessions on alternate weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between January 21 and February 14. Subsequently, the exam for some of the papers will be conducted in multiple sessions.
  • The registration process for the exam will be completely online and aspirants should not send any hard copy of their application form/documents etc. to any of the IIT/IISc zonal GATE office.
  • Students can pay the application fees online through different modes like net banking, debit/credit card, e-challan etc. The admit cards for the exam will be available online and no hard copies will be posted to the aspirants.
  • GATE 2015 score is valid for three years from the date of announcement of the results.
