IIIT-Nagpur to add 120 seats from next academic year
After the successful completion of its first operational year, Indian Institute of Information Technology-Nagpur has now decided to increase its seat intake across courses. Seeking permission in this regard, the Board of Governors (BOG) has now accepted the application, thus granting them to make the required addition.
The number is likely to raise from 40 to 120 in the Computer Science Branch and from 40 to 80 in Electronics and Telecommunication branch.
Established at the state’s first institute under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) Mode, IIIT-Nagpur is a newly set up campus which commenced its operations from July 2016. Initially, the campus started functioning with only 40 seats in each of its offered branches. This was due to lack of proper infrastructure and facilities, but now the campus is ready to make an addition to the number of offered seats and intake more students.
If latest reports are to be believed, the earlier plan was to make IIIT-N campus operational with just 60 seats across branches. But after taking the possible factors into account, it was observed that the facilities and infrastructure at the campus are not at par with the required standards. Thus the seats were capped to 40.
Admissions to all the IIITs across the country are based on JEE Mains scores and the counselling by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The HRD ministry regulates admissions to all the 92 institutes accepting JoSAA scores for admissions, which include 22 IITs, 31 NITs, 20 IIITs, ISM and other Government Funded Technical Institutes.
