Despite the impact of double-dip recession, nearly 60% students from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) have been placed in the first round of placement. The placement season at IIT-B started on 1st December, 2011. Many international companies have visited the campus. Many of these did not have any existence in the Indian market earlier.
Moreover, the institute is looking forward to attract multinational companies with global presence in the second round of placements, which will commence in January, 2012. IIT-B is also trying to bring a Hong Kong-based firm which has 60% of global market presence. The company has more than 45, 000 employees across the world.
The institute has attracted increasing number of companies from Far East including countries like Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore. It is also hoping to see more of such companies in the second round of placements.
Although, the fear of global recession is high, but still the institute has been successful in placing nearly 800 students out of a total of 1400 students from B.Tech, M.Tech and dual degree programmes along with the masters and PhD programmes. Almost 78% of students from the dual degree programmes have been placed followed by 65% of B.Tech students.
IIT-B is all set to take on the New Year on a high note.
