IIT-B to start UG courses in Economics, Design
IIT-Bombay has decided to join the league of IITs offering an undergraduate course in Economics and Bachelor of Design. Both the courses are planned to be launched from the academic year 2014-15.
The nature (4 year undergraduate course or a 5-year integrated PG course), duration, eligibility, admission procedure and the number of seats for the economics course will only be finalised after the senate approves the proposal. However, the work for the four-year B Design course is almost done. IIT-B already offers PG courses in design.
As far as the admission process (test pattern) is concerned, a committee of IIT-B, IIT Delhi, IITK and ISc Bangalore will meet later this month to consider a proposal to incorporate a separate paper of Design at JEE (Advanced) to test the basic skills of the students for this highly creative course.
JEE (Advanced) is the second stage after JEE Main exam, to be conducted for admission to undergraduate courses at premium engineering institutes in India.
