IIT JAM 2011 will be conducted on May 8, 2011!

IITs will be conducting the Joint Admission Test (IIT JAM 2011) on May, 2011 for admission to its M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-PhD, M.Sc.-PhD Dual Degree, and other Post-B.Sc. programmes on May 8, 2011. All - Indian or foreign - aspirants can sit for IIT JAM 2011.

IIT JAM is a single test that screens candidates across the country based on the undergraduate level science education objectives. The post-bachelor degree programmes at IITs are comparable to the best available in the world and offer several opportunities to students to develop their academic talent and use their scientific knowledge for practical applications. The curricula of the programmes are interdisciplinary and the medium of instruction is English.

Important Dates for IIT JAM 2011

IIT JAM 2011 will be conducted on May 8, 2011 and its results are expected to be announced around 5:00 pm on 30th of May, 2011.

IIT JAM aspirants have to give following papers for access to respective programmes:

A candidate can appear for one or two test papers at the most in IIT JAM 2011. Those who want to appear for two test papers need to ensure that the time schedule for both the papers does not clash together.

IIT JAM 2011 Test Schedule

On 8th May, 2011, IIT JAM 2011 will be conducted in two sessions:

•Computer Applications, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics papers will be held from 9 am to 12 noon.
•Biotechnology, Geophysics, and Mathematics papers will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Eligibility Requirements for IIT JAM 2011

There is no age limit for IIT JAM 2011. However, the candidates who clear IIT JAM 2-11 are required to meet the minimum educational qualification and eligibility criteria of the respective academic programme to gain admission into it.

• Candidates who qualify JAM 2011 have to meet minimum educational qualifications and eligibility criteria for admission to the programs. Those who are appearing for their final year exams at bachelor-degree level with respective subjects are given provisional admission, which might get cancelled if they do not get minimum scores specified.
• The combined score for all the subjects and subsidiaries for all the years at the Bachelors level must not be less than 55% for General or OBC category students and not less than 50% for SC, ST or PD category students.
• You need to submit the copies of results of the qualifying degree to the institute, latest by September 30, 2011.
• A certificate of physical fitness from a registered medical fitness also needs to be submitted to be able to pursue the course from IITs.

Seats are reserved for SC, ST, and PD category students as specified by the institutes.

IIT JAM 2011 Exam Pattern

The question papers for Biotechnology and Computer Applications have only objective-type and multiple-choice questions while all the other question papers carry objective as well as subjective type questions. The weightage of objective to subjective questions is 30% and 70% respectively.

There is negative scoring for objective-type questions and one-third marks is deducted for each incorrect answer.
