IIT JEE 2011: Analysis, Cutoff and Solutions!
IIT Jee 2011 organizers might have backtracked on its promise of providing model solutions
to students online within 48 hours of the test but here are we with IIT JEE analysis and correct answers to IIT JEE 2011 question papers:
IIT JEE 2011 Analysis
Analysis of Paper 1:
In the first paper, 69 questions were asked - 23 each in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics (in that order) - which carried a total of 240 marks.
Exam Pattern for each subject was similar. It has been traced below:
| Question Nos. |
Type of Questions | Scoring Pattern | Total No. of Marks for these questions |
| 1 to 7 | Objective Type questions with single correct choice | +3 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer | 21 marks |
| 8 to 11 | Objective Type questions with multiple correct choice | +4 for correct answer with NO negative marking | 16 marks |
12 to 16 |
Objective Type questions with single correct choice based on two paragraphs: One paragraph had two questions, and Second paragraph had three questions |
+3 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer | 15 marks |
17 to 23 |
Integer Type questions with single digit answers | +4 for correct answer with NO negative marking | 28 marks |
Total Marks for Each Section: |
80 marks |
In general opinion of the students, Chemistry was quite easy while Mathematics was tough.
Analysis of Paper 2:
In the second paper, 60 questions were asked - 20 each in Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics (in that order) - which carried a total of 240 marks.
Exam Pattern for each subject was similar. It has been traced below:
| Question Nos. |
Type of Questions | Scoring Pattern | Total No. of Marks for these questions |
| 1 to 8 | Objective Type questions with single correct choice | +3 for correct answer and -1 for wrong answer | 24 marks |
| 9 to 12 | Objective Type questions with multiple correct choice | +4 for correct answer with NO negative marking | 16 marks |
13 to 19 |
Integer Type questions with single digit answers | +4 for correct answer with NO negative marking | 24 marks |
19 to 20 |
Matrix Match Type questions with two questions that had four rows each. Four elements of the first column had to be matched with the five elements of the second column | +2 for correct answer in each row with NO negative marking | 16 marks |
Total Marks for Each Section: |
80 marks |
In general opinion of the students, Paper 2 was more difficult than Paper 1 but Physics and Mathematics sections were only moderately difficult.
IIT JEE Cutoffs and What We Say:
With over 4.8 lakh students competing for engineering seats in 15 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), it is natural that competition is expected to be tough. However, the new reforms have made papers easier compared to last year and the standard of the examination has considerably gone down. The number of questions in each section has also been reduced.
Overall, the question paper was quite student-friendly and hence, expected IIT JEE cutoffs 2011 will be quite high. In fact, IIT JEE cutoff scores should be in the range of 190 to 200 for this year. It is also being said that one question in Paper I in the Mathematics paper was conceptually wrong.
Performance in Chemistry is expected to be the deciding factor this year because it was the Chemistry section in Paper II of IIT JEE 2011 that actually represented the actual vigor of the famous engineering entrance exam. Physics and Mathematics was not so difficult.
