International companies are playing a vital role in the placement process at the IITs this year.

IIT Madras:

This year, two B.Tech final year computer science engineering students got offers of $210,000 (Rs 1.31 crore) each, for international roles at a US-based company. Google offered packages of Rs 92 lakh to three students.

The placement offers this year raised the bar of dollar packages to 40 percent from $150,000 at the institute. While the domestic offers too have increased by nearly 70 per cent to Rs 48.6 lakh a year in comparison to Rs 28.8 lakh last year.

About 100 students got placed in MNCs on the very first day of the placement season. Some of the companies that visited the campus were AFP Samsung Electronics, Epic, Microsoft India R&D, Oracle, LinkedIn, Deutsche Bank, ITC, and Google.

IIT Kanpur:

With the commencement of the placement season on December 1, the annual packages being offered to students at IIT Kanpur reached to a whopping Rs 1 crore and above.

Rishabh Nigam, a final year student of computer science was offered the highest pay package of $1.5 lakhs (Rs 90 lakhs approx) by Tower Research, a New York-based financial services company. While a student of MTech final year and a BTech plus MTech dual degree course student - have been offered an annual package of $1 lakh plus 10% bonus (Rs 70 lakh) by Rocket Fuel, a US based company.

Satvik Chauhan attracted a lot of attention with 10 out of 10 Cumulative Percentile Index, commonly known as CPI on the campus. Chauhan got placement calls from almost every major participating IT company but he preffered to work with Google in Mountain View, US.

For the first time ever, a company from Europe took part in the placement process at the campus. Germany-based Sap Labs, offered a student of BTech plus MTech dual degree course, an annual pay package of 55,000 Euros (Rs 46.2 lakhs approx).

Some of the other companies that took part in the placement process at IIT Kanpur are: EXL, Epic (US), Oracle, Destuche Bank, and Goldman Sachs.

Around 1100 students registered themselves with the placement cell and around 225 companies participated.

IIT Bombay:

The placement drive this year at IIT Bombay saw leading companies offering hefty packages. Samsung Korea made an offer of $135,000 excluding performance-based incentives, picking up 14 students on campus. The students were selected for its US and Korea offices.

Samsung Korea was followed by Google who chose around 10 students – three for its California office and seven for India. Microsoft too hired nine students; five for US and four for India.

According to information, Microsoft and Google are likely to unveil compensation packages of around $110,000 (Rs 68 lakh) to shortlisted candidates at IIT-Bombay.

IIT Kharagpur:   

Google has also offered $120,000 (Rs 74.8 lakh) at IIT-Guwahati along with offering the highest pay of around Rs 93 lakh at IIT Kharagpur. Schlumberger, Mitsubishi, Apple and Oracle, and Indian start-ups such as Zomato are some of the companies who have the highest offers this year.
