JEE Advanced 2014: Paper 1 analysis
By Ramesh Batlish
JEE Advanced 2014 concluded today with over lakhs of BTech aspirants taking the exam around 99 centres across the country. Although the number of questions and maximum marks of the paper remain same as in 2013, there is a drastic change in marking pattern. Almost all questions required comprehensive thinking/working and analytical reasoning for solutions. However, it was required for students to attempt all questions, since there was no negative marking.
This year, there were only 2 types of questions:
1. 10 multiple choice questions with one or more than one correct &
2. 10 numerical based questions with single digit integer from 0-9 as answer.
All questions are 3 marks each but with no negative marking.
- Physics: The physics paper was lengthier than last year.
- Chemistry: The chemistry paper in particular was tougher than last year.
- Mathematics: This part of the paper was not balanced since almost 50% was calculus, 30% was algebra & 20% was coordinate geometry /3D.
As far as scoring (on an average) in the paper is concerned, it is expected to be lower compared to last year. Students who have put in regular focused study with thorough practice of concepts should not have trouble sailing through.
