JEE Main 2014: After exams, its time for family, sports and party

“Ah! I have no idea. I mean I haven’t yet decided on what to do – study or party,” said a student right after taking the JEE Main 2014 paper yesterday.

His answer popped a question in our head – what do these students do after they are done with their exams on the first day – do they study, party, sleep or just do nothing?

Frankly speaking, after seeing the stress on their faces, before and after JEE Mains, we thought, these kids would certainly go back home and get back to their books. But to our surprise, most of them didn’t have plans like that.

Instead, a lot of students that shiksha.com spoke to had plans to party with friends, while others, who travelled long distances to take the exam due to lack of exam centres in their hometown, eagerly wanted to get back to their hometown and spend time with family. Some of these students even had plans to mentor other students preparing for exams.

Praful Gupta from Aligarh, said, “ I am so disappointed after taking this exam. I am not at all satisfied and I’m tensed now. As for my plans from here, I will visit a friend of mine. His younger brother is taking some exam this year and I am responsible to mentor and teach him. Will have some fun there, may be”.

Another student, Shivam Negi, who seemed new to the city, said, “As such, I have no plans. I shifted to the city quite recently and thus don’t have much friends to hang around. I might be spending some time with my mom. Moreover, besides JEE Mains, I have applied for five other exams and I think I should get back to my studies as all these exams are just round the corner.”

Likhith, who is 80% sure of cracking JEE Main, stated, “Today, I am not going to study. It’s the final T20 Match between India and Pakistan! I just can’t study today. But, from tomorrow, I will be back to the grind, basically my studies”.

Majority of the students we met had similar plans like that of Likhith – watching a football or a cricket match and then going back to their studies.

Yash, Shivi and Shubham, a group of three young and enthusiastic friends knew exactly what they wanted to do after JEE Main 2014 got over - “Watch UEFA Champions League!” One of them said, “I have filled the application forms for exactly 10 engineering entrance exams and I know I need to study for those. But today it’s our friend’s birthday and we are all set to go attend that. After the party, we are going to watch the UEFA Champions League. You know what’s that, right?” (UEFA stands for United Europe Football Association).

On asking Yash about his preparation for JEE Advanced, he replied, “JEE Advanced? I am sure I will not get through and my dad’s way more sure than I am. Like my friend, I too have filled the application forms for a lot of exams including NDA (National Defense Academy).” He added, “And let me tell you that if I get through NDA and JEE both, I will any day choose NDA. I don’t want to take any risks and go for a gap year and thus, filled so many application forms. At least, I would get through one of them, I suppose.”
