JEE Main 2014 Results: Students' reaction on cut offs!

The JEE Main 2014 Paper 1 cutoffs are declared today for candidates to apply for JEE Advanced. The disparity in cutoffs has students reacting on the issue of reservations. The cut offs show a striking difference between required score for the general category students and other reserved categories including SC (Scheduled Caste), ST (Scheduled Tribe) and OBC (Other Backward classes).

While the cut-off for the general category (Common Merit List -CML) is 115, the cut off for OBC (NCL), SC and ST is 74, 53 and 47 , respectively.

The disparity in the cut offs hasn’t gone quite well with the students. Look for any discussion, forum or page related to JEE Main 2014, and you'll find these platforms flooded with questions regarding the reservation system in India, particularly, with respect to these cut-offs released today.

Here's a glimpse of how students took to social networking sites to express their anger, stress and views on the reservation system:

Ashish Singh: “This is not fair with the general category students. Can you please get the reservation system banned or something?”
Sid: “There is nothing left to say now. Whatever hopes we had, reservations ruined it all. It's a dirty systm, dirty politics. They differentiate between education and talent. This isn’t fair!”
Samar: “Dropped an year, even then couldn't qualify for appearing in JEE advanced. Last year I scored 86 and this year 100. I don't deserve to be alive. I wasted ?80,000 of my parents. I wish some heavy vehicle runs over me tomorrow morning when I go to walk and end my life. I don't have guts to commit suicide.”
Tanmay: “47 for ST & 115 for General... Are ST's all BPL(Below Poverty Line) and all General students. son of Bill Gates? What's the logic behind it? Rich people are plenty in SC ST and most of the poor fall in the General category. What about them.... Many talented General catgory students are born to do business in India because of this pathetic reservation system”.
Sachin : “ I wish I not born as a general category student. I would have been selected for JEE advanced if I was an ST or an SC”.

Hey Gyz. Reservations apart. Butwhy is it that there are so many scholarship schemes fo sc/st and not for generals. and above that there is even discriminations in the annual fees in the colleges, ie now the fees are doubled for generals (ie 1 lk per annum) while still the same for Sc/ST(20K)

@ Rudra 80366. when we speak of sc/sc/obc. we start thinking bout the poor people bt dats nt d case. nowadays reservation quota people are misusing this criteria and after scoring just 31 in jee main they claim nit.

A candidate of general class, Scored 113 marks. Still looking for other career options. Father didn't say much about that but looks at me as I'm a proclaimed offender. Alas ! I would be of SC or ST class.
