KCET 2014 Rank Predictor: All about categories, quotas, codes and reservations
Karnataka Common Entrance Test( KCET) is a common entrance test conducted by the Karnataka University for admission to Engineering, Medical and Dental courses at the undergraduate level. To be eligible for the exam, students must have cleared Class 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. They must also have scored 45% marks in aggregate in optional subjects (Chemistry / Bio-technology / Computer-Science / Electronics / Biology).
This year, the exam was held on May 1 and May 2, 2014. While the Biology and Mathematics paper was conducted on May 1, the Physics and Chemistry were conducted on the second day i.e. May 2.
The exam results are expected to be announced on May 27, 2014 and the scores and ranks for the same will be based on an aspirant’s marks in the qualifying examination and the marks he/she scores in KCET 2014.
Notably, there is a wide range of reservation categories in the state and aspirants from these categories can avail the same to their benefit to get admissions into an institute in the state. Take a look at the list here:

Reservation of seats:
A certain section of seats in KCET are reserved for students who belong to various reservation quotas and government regulations. These include the following:
NCC Special Category:
- Applicants who have ‘B’ Certificate for 5-year study period in Karnataka and who took part in the Republic Day Camp organized by Director General of National Cadet Corps, Delhi from Karnataka; or
- Applicants who have ‘B’ Certificate for 5-year study period in Karnataka i.e. 8th to 12th and who participated in the following camps organized by Director General of NCC, New Delhi from Karnataka:
- All India Thal Sainik Camp (Boys) – TSC
- All India Thal Sainik Camp (Girls) - TSC (G)
- All India Nau Sainik Camp – NSC
- All India Vayu Sainik Camp – VSC
- Cadets who have been finally chosen as a part of DG NCC team to participate in All India Movalankar Shooting Championship at National Level AND Youth Exchange Programmes and Foreign Naval Cruise organised by DG, NCC.
- Cadets participate in All India Movalankar Shooting Championship as a part of KAR and GOA Director Team. AND in complete - Mountaineering Expeditions (over 5900 Meters), Sailing Expeditions, Motor Cycle Expeditions (more than 3500 KMs) and Cycling Expeditions (more than 1500 KMs) organized by DG, NCC / NCC Director of Karnataka & Goa.

Sports Special Category:
- Applicants who have won cups/medals at national level in Super-A Games given in the brochure and have completed their 5 yrs of education from Karnataka.
- Applicants who have won cups/medals at national level in A-Games given in the brochure and have completed their 5 yrs of education from Karnataka will get reservation under sports special category as per KCET 2014 Reservation of Seats.
- Applicants who have won cups/medals while representing Karnataka and participated in Super-A and A-Games while studying in Karnataka in 8th to 12th Standards.
- Applicants who have represented Karnataka in B-Games and won any cups/medals during the period of study in Karnataka between 8th and 12th Standards
- Applicants who have represented Karnataka in any B-Games during the period of 8th to 12th in Karnataka.
- Applicants can study the KCET 2014 Brochure for the preference order as per KCET 2014 Reservation of Seats.
Scouts and Guides Special Category:
- Applicants receiving “President’s Award” as Scouts/Guides from 8th to 12th Standards.
Defense Special Category:
- 10% of seats reserved for defense personnel shall be reserved horizontally for wards of defense personnel belonging to Karnataka.
Physically Disabled Category:
- Applicants claiming KCET 2014 Reservation of Seats under this category will have to produce certificates and have to appear before the Committee for Medical Examination.
Anglo-Indian Special Category:
- Such applicants will have to submit a certificate issued by Registered Association of Anglo-Indian Community in Karnataka countersigned by Anglo-Indian M.L.A. who is Government Nominated.
CAPF Category:
- Applicants belonging to OBC/SC/ST will have to submit the certificates showing that applicant belongs to these categories to claim seats under KCET 2014 Reservation of Seats.
- Rural Applicants will have a horizontal reservation of 15% if they have studied for full 10yrs in Karnataka. These educational institutions should not be situated in smaller urban area, large urban area or transitional area as per KCET 2014 Reservation of Seats criteria.
- Kannada Medium Applicants who have completed 10 years of education in Kannada from 1st to 10th standard will have a reservation of 5% Govt. Seats.
Reservation for reserved category candidates:
- Reservation is made in favour of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes of citizens under categories 1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B in accordance with Government Order No. SWL 251 BCA 94 dated 31st January 1995, as amended from time to time.
Reservation for rural candidates:
- 15% of the Government seats will be reserved horizontally in favour of rural candidates who have studied for 10 full academic years from 1st Standard to 10th Standard in educational institutions situated in places in the State of Karnataka other than larger urban area, smaller urban area or transitional area as mentioned in Karnataka Municipalities Act, 1964 or Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976 in accordance with the Government Order No. ED 01 TEC 2002, Bangalore, dated Feb 1, 2002 as amended from time to time.
Reservation for Kannada medium candidates:
- 5% of the Government seats will be reserved horizontally in favour of the Kannada medium candidates who have studied TEN full academic years in Kannada medium from 1st Standard to 10th Standard, in accordance with the Government Order No. ED 118 UEC 2000, Bangalore dated 04-06-2000 and as amended vide Government Order No. ED 02 UEC 2002, Bangalore dated 14-10-2005.
Reservation for ward of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants
- Reservation is made in favour of the son / daughter of Jammu & Kashmiri migrants, who satisfy the eligibility condition for Government seats. One seat each in all the Government Medical and Dental Colleges of the state AND One seat each in Engineering colleges, irrespective of course.
Reservation for Hyderabad Karnataka region candidate: 371(J)
- Reservation will be made as per the direction of the Government for Hyderabad Karnataka Region Candidates 371(J).
