M.Tech RF & Microwave is an upcoming engineering branch, which is taught in only some of the premier engineering institutes of our country.

A large number of engineering students have developed penchant for RF (radio frequency) and microwave engineering for it paves way for a promising career ahead besides being a niche engineering branch.

Only a few universities offer degree in RF and microwave engineering; one such programme has been recently introduced by the Ambedkar Institute of Technology (AIT) affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University with an intake capacity of 25 students. Any candidate holding a B.Tech degree is eligible to seek admission in this course.

This programme provides students with ample opportunities since many organizations are on hunting spree for trained resources and even willing to pay salaries on a higher side. Asok De, Principal, Ambedkar Institute of Technology says, "Students who qualify with an RF and Microwave Engineering degree have ample knowledge about radars, radio frequencies, warfare systems and equipment testing and communication satellites. They can easily be absorbed by the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) or in the commercial sector."

Also, similar programmes in RF & Microwave engineering are being offered by leading engineering institutions such as Delhi Technical University (DTU) (www.dce.edu), the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, (IIT-K) (www.iitkgp.ernet.in) and Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, (IIT-D) (www.iitd.ac.in).

Now talking about the salary scale, any students with this degree who gets hired in the government sector can earn a monthly salary of up to Rs. 40,000-Rs. 45,000. However, those students, who get recruited in the private sector can earn a monthly salary between Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 60,000.
