Mercedes training centre for Mechatronics, Robotics courses
An advanced Mechatronics Training Centre is going to come up at the Government Engineering College at Barton Hills in Thiruvananthpuram. This will be set up as a result of the collaborative effort of German luxury automobile major Mercedes Benz and the Kerala government. Students at the centre will be trained in mechatronics engineering for designing automobiles that can respond immediately without relying much on human operations.
To begin with, the institute will offer advanced diploma courses in mechatronics and robotics. There are plans to introduce post-graduate courses later. For course exchanges, collaboration with foreign universities in the UK, US and Canada is on the cards.
The centre will have the best technology from Germany and will be equipped with ultra-modern manufacturing and process control equipment to train students from automotive, mechanical, electrical and electronics stream starting with a one-year advanced diploma course. The faculty staff would be deputed from government engineering colleges in Kerala and Maharashtra, , reported The Times of India.
The programme proposes to offer an innovative course combining mechanical, electronic, electrical and computerised control of vehicles, and provide adequate industry-institution interaction. The icing on the cake would be the presence of Technopark and Isro units like VSSC and Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in the city that will assist industry-interaction exchange activities. The centre is expected to take off by June 2013.
