Find out how was Preity Rashmi's experience of studying at Government Women's Engineering College, Ajmer.

Mystory@ Preity Rashmi

I have heard a popular saying - "She believed she could, so she did", a zillion times in my life and had even known and seen people who apply this to their lives but the way I truly realised its essence was in my college and the feeling there was incomparable.

I had done my entire schooling, stuck with "coeducation" tag; but I had never experienced equi-gender faces, fully packed in a class, ever before in my life.

It was just my first day in college and what I felt then was completely different from what my school life had been about. I mean, at college I learnt about everything, be it in mechanical workshops or in power electronics lab, be it in organising cultural functions or coordinating technical festivals. All the girls like me who had come with soft hands and shy eyes, now became confident with bold words and sharp minds! I am not exaggerating here but if one was to read between the lines, I was just trying to state my thoughts before and after my college life.

I remember the day when we had gone to attend a technical fest at IIT Roorkee. We were surrounded by mixed crowds but what made me proud was our group, all us girls, who in some ways were more than even boys. Our college girls won the football championship at BHU, got selected for project making in NASA, did entrepreneur internships from Russia and some even became independent entrepreneur, and achieved many more feats.

Engineering has become a humorous challenge for students these days but one thing I must clarify that if one understands the concept of engineering and is sincere with their efforts, nothing can beat him/her in any field, whether in applying for PSUs or in MNCs.

Shakespeare had once said "And though she be but little, she is fierce". I think he was well informed about the future, even at that century in history where there was a male dominated society.

Apart from skills and technology, I must say this also that girls can be the most supportive and reliable friends, undoubtedly!

In our college everything was possible, right from arranging robotics exhibition to stage decorations, from commanding orders as a group leader to lifting chairs and tables for tent management, everything could be sorted just because of the coordination among my few batchmates.  And here, no one can snatch the credit from our faculty for their extra efforts. Extra classes, detailed lab practices, industrial visits, expert lectures and seminars, surprise tests, and most importantly how they motivated us and lifted our confidence level. It was because of all these reasons that our stay at college became all the more good.

This women's engineering college is an inspiration for me for life, not only for giving me an engineering degree but also to help me stand on my own feet!

I am really going to miss this place, I am going to miss my college days.
