Right college and right branch worked for me: Shubham Jain

Every student has to choose a particular subject after class 10th. My elder brother chose Maths, and so did I. But I did not choose it because of him, I chose it because I also like Maths. In fact, I got the highest marks in school in my board exams.
After 12th, it was time for me to go to college. I prepared for JEE Main exam but, unfortunately, I couldn’t make it. So, I searched for the best private colleges all over India. Then, I got to know about Lovely Professional University. I gathered information about this college and the details made it clear that it was the perfect college for me. Also, I was interested in computers, so I decided to take Computer Science in LPU. I am a big fan of Hollywood movies and Iron Man (Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr). When I watch his movies, I get very interested in the gadgets he makes and all the stuff he does in those movies. So, I decided that if I go to college, I will definitely take Computer Science. But I didn’t know the struggle behind it. I didn’t know how it worked, I just wanted to enjoy it. So here it is! I took admission in Lovely Professional University in a course in Computer Science.
Before admission, LPU offers you two options- whether you want admission based on your 12th score or you want to take the entrance exam for that. Accordingly, they offer you scholarships. Well, I got 91% in my 12th, so there was no need for me to take that exam but I took it anyway. I got a good AIR of 929 with a scholarship of 50%. That was the same as getting 90+ percentage in 12th. So, it didn’t matter. However, because of that entrance test viz. LPUNEST, I got CSE branch. As already mentioned, I had prepared for JEE. The course content of LPUNEST was the same as that of JEE, so I had no difficulty. I didn’t take any extra coaching classes to clear this entrance exam. But I still wonder if I could clear the LPU entrance exam, why I couldn’t clear JEE. And I think I may know the answer. You know, at that time, I was 18. I wasted precious time like I wasted extra water while bathing. However, now, I am in the most reputed college in North India and I am happy for that. I am very happy. The best way to clear LPU entrance exam or any other entrance exam depends on what you study, how you study, and for how much time you study. If you follow only one procedure at a time, you are not going to make it. The subjects in 11th and 12th are the most important subjects because 40-50% of class 11th syllabus and 50-60% of class 12th syllabus is asked in any entrance exam. If you think that you have to study extra books and extra subjects to clear any entrance exam, then you are wrong, my friend. It’s all 11th and 12th. Study hard!
But you know, many students who are worthy of taking admission in any of the NITs or IITs sometimes don’t get it because of their reasons. It’s not necessary to only study in NITs or IITs. There are many private colleges also which provide you all the information and study same as IITs. So, cheer up if you couldn’t make it.
Always remember, you will become what you want. It doesn’t depend on the college, it depends on you. It depends on how you turn yourself from lame to claim, from nothing to everything. It’s all your mind. You have to put a positive seed in your mind and when the time is right and the season is set, that seed will sprout and manifest in your life. Don’t lose hope if you didn’t get admission in your favourite college. They are all the same except for their names.
So, here I am! I have completed my 1st year of Engineering and now am in the 3rd semester of CSE. My college life is awesome. There is a big difference between who I was when I got here and what I am now. I participate in every event in my college, whether it’s small or big, whether it’s technical or non-technical. I just want to enjoy my life, and this is how I am going to enjoy it. Mark my words, if you want to be happy in college or in life, just participate; don’t care whether you win or lose. Every time you participate in any of the events, whether it’s in college or in life, you always learn something from it. And that is the main thing you want to do- ‘Learn’ everything. Your mind is very vast- way more than the universe- so just use it. You don’t know what your mind can do. Just enjoy every second of life. You only get one life and only a single chance in college, so grab it.
When I first got here, I didn’t know much about Coding. On my first day of college, when we were sitting in the computer lab, sir told us to write a simple program. I didn’t know what to do so I took help from my friend. Then, Sir told us how to execute the program, and I again didn’t know what to do. My friend helped me again. That day, I thought that I had perhaps made a mistake of taking Computer Science because I didn’t know a single thing about Coding and the students in my class knew everything. I thought I would change my branch in the 2nd year, but as time passed, I became good in Programming. I can solve the questions now. So, I’ve realized that only one bad day cannot change your future and cannot decide what you will become. So, I didn’t change my branch and now, I think that this is the right career for me. I want you to understand, my friend, that this is not the end, this is just the beginning. Everything which is good takes time to execute.
As you all know that in college or school, we only study for 1 or 2 days before the exams and we still make it. Why? Because you study day and night for those 2 days, you forget sleeping, you forget eating, bathing, chatting- everything. You just focus on the study because you know that if you don’t study, you will not get good marks and grades. That is the fear. I do the same every time when there is an exam too. I study only for 1 or 2 days before and I pass with good marks. So, why do I need to study beforehand? I can follow this method every time. But this is the attitude that has to be changed. One day, there was a class test. I thought I would study later i.e. in the morning. But I woke up late and you all can guess what happened next. I failed that test. That day, I realized that this was not going to work every time and decided to change myself. Now, after 1 year, I am still somewhat same, but I’m trying to improve.
Well, talking about my college, it gives me every opportunity whenever I need it. It helps me at every step of learning and every step of my life. You know that college plays the most important role in building your career. So, do utilize it. I think that finding the right college and selecting the right branch worked for me. I think that this will take my career to the next level. My parents are the most important part of my life. They are with me at every step and that’s the most important thing that worked for me. My elder brother always guides me because he is an engineer; he knows the things that I would face in my life as an engineer.
Well, if you want me to give you tips about career selection, then according to me, you should just go for whatever you like the most. Nothing is going to stop you once you decide that a particular thing is right for you. Your parents will never stop you if you tell them what you want because they only want to see you happy, nothing else. Select the field in which you want to go, ask yourself what you want. Give time to yourself, take as much time as you want. This is your life and you are going to live it. You are the only one who gets to decide what you want to do in your life.
