Mystory@Shvetang S. Dave: How I made my career-the challenges and successes
I lost my father when I was eight years old and then my mother in the fifth semester of my diploma study. So I had no money for my degree. It was my sister who encouraged and supported me in completing my degree with the help of my mother’s PF money. Due to lack of money, I barely got a single meal a day but I studied hard. Sometimes, I did not get food for two consecutive days. I was surviving on my mother's pension, which was only Rs. 1200 per month. Finally, with my mother’s blessing and God’s grace, I completed my degree with fourth rank in my college and 13th rank in North Gujarat University. Two years after my under graduate program in Electrical Engineering, I got a job in the State Government. With the grace of god, I was able to buy my own house and a car.
I also underwent a designing course - Autocad - on the basis of which, I immediately got a job in my field of study. I feel that every college should have an education system based on performance evaluation, which is highly desired in today’s work culture as well.
At the time of my admission to the diploma course, one of my brothers insisted that I take up the field of Electrical engineering since he felt, the domains of Electrical and Mechanical are two such fields that are popular across the world due to their day-to-day application. As a result of this, there are immense job opportunities available in these field, which made me take up this field. As part of my job role, on various occasions, I also get to visit offshore platform sites of my company situated in the middle of the see, almost 24 km away from any land mass. It is a risky and life threatening work, which I find exciting and different from other roles.
