Nanotechnology course for female students
Maitreyi College is one of the oldest colleges in Delhi. The college was established in 1967. The college was initially started with a small staff of ten teachers and with two courses. But, since then it has seen a rapid growth both in size and stature. Now, it stands among
the list of top five women colleges in Delhi. It is located in South Campus. It offers almost kinds of courses to students including science, arts, commerce and vocational courses. The students of the college have shown their mettle in various fields and proved their worth.
The college has produced many scholars and toppers. Maitreyi College is not only known for good studies but also proved to be a winner in extra-circulars activities.
Other than that, the college offers some really interesting courses, which cannot be found anywhere else. It is the only college of Delhi University which offers a post graduate diploma in nanotechnology. IP University and Jamia University are among other two universities which get grants to teach this course. But among women colleges, it is the only college which teaches this course.
The programme has been started as a short-term course under UGC’s ‘Innovative Programme - Teaching and Research in Interdisciplinary and Emerging Areas.’ The diploma programme has been approved by the Executive Council of DU. This year, the forms would be available from May 20 and the last date for submission of forms will be June 21.
Mr Ramesh Kumari Satija, deputy co-ordinator for the course said, “Two years back, we started a short-term programme in nanotechnology, but considering the growing interest in the subject and number of students applying, we made it into a one-year diploma course, in addition to the project work.” She further added into conversation, “Besides, our college is also offering career-oriented short-term courses of six-month duration in web designing and journalism for undergraduate students.”
The diploma will encourage and cultivate creativity and innovation among students about fundamental and practical aspects of nanotechnology/nanomaterial and instrumentation. .
A Professional in this field can choose a career in various fields and sectors like: nanomedicine, pharmaceutical companies, polymer, rubber and energy companies.
