The newer IITs are witnessing a very small fraction of recruiters visiting their campus.

The placement session has already started at IITs and the new six IITs have also started the placement process for their first batch. When compared with the older IITs, the six new IITs have witnessed a small fraction of recruiters at their respective campuses. Even the remuneration packages offered to the newer IITs students is also comparatively less. Students of older IITs are getting the fattier salaries ever.

Top notching companies such as TCS, Deloitte and Microsoft have extended offers in the range of 6 lakh- 16 lakh in the new IITs. This amount is lower than the average salary offers extended by the top companies in the older IITs.

So far, IIT Hyderabad has received the highest international offer of Rs 35 lakh from Japan based Works Applications. On the other hand, in the older IITs, top notching companies such as Pocket Gems and Facebook have made highest offers in the range of $125,000 to $150,000 (from 62.5 lakh to 75 lakh) for jobs headquartered in the US.

Microsoft has extended 2 offers at IIT Guwahati for positions based in the US at a package of around $119,000. The reason behind these numbers is that the newer IITs have a small fraction of students as compared to the older IITs. Additionally, the older IITs have their good relations with the corporate world and have already made their mark in the industry whereas the new IITs are yet to build their relationship with the corporate world.

The placement process has begun on 1st December, 2011 in new IITs. The first batch of these IITs will graduate on May 2012. Till date, IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Patna have placed their 29 and 15 students respectively. Flipkart has made offers to 6 students of IIT Gandhinagar in the last 6 days. Companies such as Infosys, Microsoft, National Instruments, Texas Instrument, STM electronics and Freescale have visited the campus of IIT Jodhpur.

In order to make the recruitment process more transparent, the newer IITs have now demanded for a standard benchmark for the recruiters. The new IITs have also acclaimed that recruiters were being biased and offering lesser salary packages to the new IIT students.

The new IITs are keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that the corporate world will gradually come to know about the quality of students at new IITs and will start visiting the campus by giving it a try. These institutes are biting the dust in order to get the best recruiters at the campus.
