Online IIT JEE under consideration

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are mulling to conduct an online joint entrance examination (JEE) and they are also on the lines of Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). IITs also want to win the race in this era of digital revolution. CAT went online three years ago for entry into prestigious IIMs and conduction of IIT JEE as online would be a great step in this direction.

The conduction body of IIT JEE 2012, IIT Delhi, has invited all IIT directors to attend an online model demonstration workshop. The JEE office is hosting this workshop. According to the sources, Education Testing Services (ETS), which is the organizer of GRE and several other popular global online examinations, will make a presentation at the workshop.

However, it's too early to say whether IIT JEE will go online or not. As per a senior official, the agenda of this meeting was to discuss the probability of an online examination for JEE. But, it is yet not confirmed as the officials are figuring out the feasibility of this plan.

In the early days, CAT also faced various technical glitches but it is under control now. Such exams require more calculation and to meet this requirement, pen and paper seems to be a better option. But these days students are well versed and are technophiles; and everything should be computerized.
