The Delhi University offers a plethora of courses in pure as well as interdisciplinary sciences. Among these, one of the most sought after courses is BSc (Honours) in Microbiology.
This course involves the study of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi and protozoa. As an interdisciplinary subject, microbiology forays into a large number of fields.
Besides the core knowledge on microorganisms, the course curriculum includes topics that range from biochemistry, molecular biology, microbial genetics, immunology and biotechnology.
Microbiologists have a key role to play in issues such as climate change, renewable energy resources and controlling diseases, among others. For this, they can work in universities research institutes; pharmaceuticals, biochemical and food and beverage companies, and pathology labs.
