RPET 2014: Quotas, categories & reservations

The Board of Technical Education of Rajasthan conducts Rajasthan pre-engineering test 2014 (RPET 2014) to offer admissions to interested candidates in the undergraduate programmes which are a means through which candidates can earn an engineering degree (B.Tech/B.E.).

RPET 2014 is scheduled to be conducted on May 21, 2014 from 9 am to 12 pm. This state CET will be conducted at test centres located in cities such as – Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Banner, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Churu, Hindaun City, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Kota, Pilani, Sikar, Sirohi, Sri Ganganagar, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk and Udaipur.

RPET 2014 will consist of 40 multiple choice questions in each subject – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each correct answer will earn the candidate one mark. There is no negative marking in this entrance exam.

This state CET has some reservation categories and candidates who fall under them can avail the same to their benefit.

RPET 2014: Reservation of seats

The Government of Rajasthan has laid-down the below mentioned reservations in institutes located in the state of Rajasthan wherein candidates are offered admissions after clearing RPET. However, these reservations are not applicable in Rajasthan’s private unaided Institutions and 50% seats in the self financed course of the aided institutions.

Scheduled Caste (SC)

A total of 16% seats are reserved for candidates who fall under the SC quota.

Scheduled Tribe (ST)

A total of 12% seats are reserved for candidates who fall under the ST quota.

Other Backward Classes (OBC)

Candidates belonging to non-creamy layer OBC category will be given 21% reservation. It is further clarified that candidates belonging to creamy layer OBC are not entitled for reservation benefits and shall be treated in General category and they need to fill General category in their application form.

Special Backward Classes (SBC)

Candidates belonging to the non-creamy layer SBC candidates will get 1% reservation. It is further clarified that candidates belonging to creamy layer SBC category are not entitled for reservation benefits and shall be treated in General category, therefore, creamy layer SBC candidates should fill General category in their application form.

Physically Handicapped (PwD)

Candidates who suffer from a physical disability can apply for admission through the PwD quota. A total of 3% seats are reserved under this quota.

Women

Girls/women applying for admission through RPET can avail the women quota wherein 25% seats are reserved.

Defence Killed/Ex-servicemen/Gallantry award winners

Candidates who are dependents of ex-servicemen, gallantry award winners as well as defense personals who were killed on duty are eligible to avail 3% reservations for them.

Reservation of girls in this category: 50% of the reserved seats in this category are earmarked for the girls.

Kashmiri Migrants

As per the official information brochure of RPET, 5% of total intake capacity over and above the sanctioned strength in each of the institutions will be reserved for Kashmiri migrants. Son/daughter of displaced people from Jammu & Kashmir shall be eligible for admission to engineering colleges through RPET 2014.

For general category only 15 % seats are available, 85% seats are reserved. why 15 % seat not reserved for general category? Hope BJP govt will look in to this matter.
