UPSEE 2014: Quotas, categories & reservation

Conducted by Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU), Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) is conducted to offer admissions to interested candidates in various programmes on offer at government aided as well as private unaided institutes which are affiliated to UPTU and other state universities located in Uttar Pradesh.

Courses in which students are granted admissions on the basis of their UPSEE 2014 scores are B. Tech (engineering), B. Tech (agricultural engineering), B. Pharma, B. Arch, hotel management, fashion & apparel design (1st year as well as lateral entry).

UPSEE 2014 was held on April 20, 2014 to offer admissions in engineering, fashion and apparel design, pharmacy, hotel management and architecture courses. The state CET for MBA, MAM and MCA programmes was conducted on April 27, 2014.

Under UPSEE candidates can apply for admissions under different quotas and categories which are listed in details below.

UPSEE 2014: Categories for admissions

Candidates can apply for admission under different codes and categories which are:

General (UPGE): Candidates who have appeared for the qualifying examination from an institution located in the state of Uttar Pradesh (UP)and who do not claim for any reserved category are eligible for admission to all the courses at all the institutions against available general (open) seats. They do not need to furnish any certificate to apply for admissions under this category.

Scheduled Caste (UPSC): Candidates who fall under the scheduled caste (SC) category as per the guidelines laid down by the Government of India can apply for admissions under this category. Candidates who fall under this category need to produce a certificate of eligibility under this category. In UPSEE, 21% seats are reserved for candidates falling under the SC category.

Scheduled Tribe (UPST): Candidates who fall under the scheduled tribe (ST) category as per the guidelines laid down by the Government of India can apply for admissions under this category. Candidates who fall under this category need to include a certificate of eligibility under this category. In UPSEE, 2% seats are reserved for candidates falling under the ST category.

Other Backward Classes (UPBC): Candidates who fall under the other backward classes (OBC) category as per the guidelines laid down by the Government of India can apply for admissions under this category. Candidates who fall under this category need to include a certificate of eligibility under this category. In UPSEE, 27% seats are reserved for candidates falling under the OBC category.

Residents of UP: Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from an educational institute located outside the state of UP can apply for UPSEE if their parents are residents of the state and have a domicile to reflect the same.

UPSEE 2014: Reservation of seats

A section of seats in UPSEE are reserved for candidates falling under:

Dependents of freedom fighters (UPFF): A total of 2% seats are reserved for candidates who are dependents of freedom fighters of Uttar Pradesh state in UPSEE. Candidates falling under this quota need to furnish a certificate affirming the same at the time of counselling.

Defence personnel (UPAF): Sons/daughters of defence personnels of UP who have retired or been killed/disabled on duty can apply for admission through UPSEE under this quota. This quota can be availed by kin of defence personnel who were in service in the state of UP or are a domicile holders of UP. A total of 5% seats are reserved for candidates falling under this quota.

Physically handicapped (UPHC): Candidates who are considered to be handicapped/disabled as per the medical standards listed out by UPTU, can apply for admissions through this quota. A total of 3% seats are reserved for candidates falling under the UPHC quota.

Girl Child (UPGL): A total of 20% seats are reserved for female candidates who apply for admission into various courses through UPSEE.

Apart from these quotas and reservation, if a general category candidate who has passed his qualifying exam from an institution situated in UP’s rural area, applies for admissions through UPSEE, then he/she will be given additional weightage of 3% of the total marks obtained by him/her in UPSEE 2014. This shall be done provided the institution is situated in the jurisdiction of Gram Panchayat but the area should not be industrially developed. If a candidate fulfills this criterion and wants to avail this help then he/she needs to produce a certificate stating the same at the time of counselling.

Candidates also need to note that rural weightage is not applicable for a candidate if he/ she has opted for any other reservation. Also, candidates who are applying for UPSEE for a second year cannot avail rural weightage. In addition candidates, whose parents live in a rural area and who themselves have studied at some other city cannot avail rural weightage feature under the domicile reservation.
