WBJEE 2014: Quotas, categories & reservations
West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam 2014 (WBJEE 2014) is the common entrance test through which candidates can gain admission into different degree level courses in streams such as medical, dental, engineering & technology, pharmacy and architecture in universities, Government colleges as well as self-financed technological institutes in West Bengal.
WBJEE 2014 for admissions into biological sciences courses was conducted on April 19, 2014 whereas the state CET for physics, chemistry and mathematics was conducted on April 20, 2014. The result for WBJEE 2014 is expected to be declared in the month of June 2014.
Through WBJEE, candidates can gain admission in higher education institutes which are fully-funded or party funded by the state. These institutes are known to offer admissions in undergraduate level engineering, technology, pharmacy, medical, dental courses and herein candidates can avail the benefits of some seat reservations which are as follows:
WBJEE 2014: Reserved Category Seats
SC/ST/OBC-A/OBC-B of West Bengal
As per the State Govt.’s policy, with respect to the creation of the new/additional seats, reservation shall be extended on the availability of seats subject to the approval of the appropriate regulatory authorities.
For un-aided self-financing engineering, technology, pharmacy, medical and dental colleges, reservation of seats for candidates from the SC/ST/OBC categories is not mandatory. However, seats may be available for admission to candidates who fall under this category only where the institution authorities decide to offer such seats.
The certificates for SC/ST/OBC candidates are to be issued by any of the following competent authorities, which are:

SC/ST/PwD/OBC of other states :
SC/ST/PwD/OBC candidates who reside in other states apart from West Bengal are not eligible for such benefits and they will be treated as general category candidates.
PwD (Persons with Disabilities):
For admission to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Pharm courses
Candidates will be eligible for applying admissions under this category if they have minimum of 40% disability with respect to loco-motor disorder, visual impairment, speech & hearing Impairment subject to the condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related to theory and practical work as applicable to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch/B.Pharm courses without any special concession and exemption.
For admissions to MBBS/BDS courses:
Candidates are eligible to apply for admissions under this reservation, if they have 50%-70% loco-motor disability of lower limb. However, in case any seat in the earmarked quota remains unfilled on account of non-availability of candidates with loco-motor disability between 50% - 70%, any such unfilled seat in the said quota shall be filled up by persons with loco-motor disability of lower limbs between 40% to 50%.
Minority Quota
A total of 50% seats are reserved in WBJEE 2014 for candidates who are from the minority category, that is, from the Sikh or Christian community. However, candidates belonging to Sikh/Christian religious minority category and domiciled in West Bengal, may choose to get admitted in such religious minority institutes as approved by the Government against specified minority quota notified by the State Government of West Bengal.
Defence Quota
A total of 12 seats in Engg/Tech are reserved for students under Defence Quota. Out of them, seven seats are reserved in different branches in Govt. Engineering & Technology Colleges of the State. Another two seats are reserved in Jadavpur University and three seats are reserved at Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur respectively.

Management Quota
A maximum of 10% seats are reserved in different courses under the management quota. However, this quota is applicable in only self-financed colleges of the state which offer B.E./B.Tech./B. Pharm/B. Arch. courses. This quota is also applicable for admission in courses running on self-financing basis under the University Institute of Technology, Burdwan University.
