World Education Award 2013 goes to IIT-G!

At the World Education Summit held recently in New Delhi, IIT-G was awarded “best innovation by an engineering institute” partly for having the country’s largest Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) component among technical programmes.
Amongst all the B.Tech programs offered by the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), the one at IIT-Gandhinagar has bagged the 'World Education Award 2013' for its innovations.
At the World Education Summit held recently in New Delhi, the institute was awarded “best innovation by an engineering institute” partly for having the country’s largest Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) component among technical programmes.
The award also recognised several other innovations at IIT-GN that included:
- Unique five-week immersion foundation programme
- A compulsory course on design and innovation
- Options for Honours and Minors
- Emphasis on project-based teaching
- A unique 'comprehensive viva-voce' of each student every semester to identify their talents and weaknesses
The summit is organised annually by the All India Council for Technical Education, Elets Technomedia, National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT), and United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
