Get ready to crack the CDS Entrance 2012

Combined Defense Services Entrance Exam (CDS) is regarded as one of the prestigious entrance examination in India conducted by Union Public Services Commission. It will take place on 12th February 2012 across the nation. Candidates who will clear the written exam, will be eligible for the next round which is the interview organized by Services Selection Board of the Ministry of Defense. The Candidates who have cleared the CDS Entrance Exam will be offered admission into the following courses:

  • 133rd Course of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun
  • Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala
  • 192nd Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course
  • Officers Training Academy, Chennai, 96th SSC Course (for Men)
  • Officers Training Academy Chennai, 10th SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course


There are a total of 522 vacancies and are divided as follows:

  • 40 vacancies for Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala
  • 32 for Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-flying) Training Course
  • 250 vacancies for Indian Military Academy Dehradun
  • 175 Vacancies for Officers Training Academy, Chennai 97th SSC Course (for Men) commencing in April 2013
  • 25 Vacancies for Officers Training Academy, Chennai, 11th SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course commencing in April 2013

Eligibility Criteria:
Students must fulfill the following criteria for taking this entrance:

  • For Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Officers' Training Academy (OTA)
  1. The candidate must have a Degree of a recognized University or equivalent
  2. The age limit for IMA is 19-24 Years and for OTA is 19-25 Years
  • For Naval Academy (NA)
  1. The candidate must have successfully completed B.Sc. with Physics & Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering
  2. The age limit is 19-22 Years
  • For Air Force Academy (AFA)
  1. The candidate must have successfully completed B.Sc. with Physics and/or Mathematics or Bachelor of Engineering
  2. The age limit is 19-23 Years

UPSC CDS entrance written exam is an objective type exam with 3 sections viz. English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics for IMA, NA and AFA. For Officers' Training Academy (OTA), this entrance consists of 2 papers - English and General Knowledge. Each section has been given an equal weightage of 100 marks and duration of 2 hours.

This entrance will take place in 41 centers across India. The candidates after clearing the written exam will have to send the Photostat attested copies to the Army Headquarters/Naval Headquarters/Air Headquarters according to their choice.
