Choose Course Over College
Secure a seat, if your name has appeared in the first cut-off list in any of the colleges, advised most teachers to DU aspirants. The course should be given priority over the college, said the teachers.
"All the colleges of the varsity have similar faculty and facilities, so the course should be of utmost importance.
Those who are focused and have planned out a career path, will choose course over the college," said Meera Ramchandran, principal, Gargi College.
There is no point waiting for the second list just to make it to the college of one's choice for the candidates might have to compromise on the course then, she added. Some candidates seconded this.
"Though my first choice was Shri Ram College of Commerce, but I couldn't make it there. I have got through Daulat Ram College and will take admission there," said Arshiya Sibia who has applied for Economics (Honours).
But for those who have not made it to the course of their choice, waiting for the second list may be a good idea.
"The cut-offs are not drastically different as compared to that of last year.
We see a possibility of a second list in most courses in many colleges. The first cut-offs are generally steep but by the second or third list, they tend to come down. So, it is worthwhile to wait for the second list if one is keen on a particular course," said Minoti Chatterjee, principal, Kamla Nehru College.
Cut-offs in BA (Programme), for instance, may come down by the second list.
"A lot of students fill up for the course as a second or third option and opt out of it if they make it to their first choice, so one may see a second list with a lower cut-off," said Rajendra Prasad, principal, Ramjas College.
