Education fair by Hindustan Times for Career Counseling of students meets Huge Success

New Delhi, June 2 - An aspiration is a strong desire to achieve an ambition, and every student who walked into the Ashok hotel on May 29 and 30 certainly walked out with useful information related to the careers they wanted to take up in life.

It was HT Aspirations 2010, an education exhibition organized by Hindustan Times, where counsellors from various Indian and international institutions offered free personalised counselling sessions. The highlight of the event was the counselling sessions on Delhi University admissions.

The event was attended by hundreds of students and their parents, who were seeking the right bit of information which would set their careers up and running.

Krishan Pal Singh, who serves the Navy, was there with his son and gave a positive feedback, "It was really helpful and very enlightening as well."

Prakriti Mishra, of DPS RK Puram said, "I got to know a lot more than I expected. It was very nice and satisfying." Rajesh Raina, an IFS officer, suggested that there should be stalls for government colleges as well and that "more emphasis should be laid on Class IX students, because it builds the foundation for classes X and XII." He also mentioned that before starting an event there should be a common lecture to apprise the participants of the things to come.

Career counselling sessions were held on both the days where associates of career counsellor Usha Albuquerque and psychologist Jitendra Nagpal were there to help students make the right choices. The counsellors spent around 15 minutes with each student. Nidhi Prasad, who is a counselling psychologist, said, "The response from the students has been really nice. Most of them have finished schooling, and majority of the questions are regarding B Tech."

Pranavi Kapur and Arunima Sarin of Modern School, Barakhamba Road also had words of praise for the event, "A really nice effort has been put together, thumbs up!"

Two campus calling sessions were organised at 10:30 and 2 pm on Saturday where officials of Delhi University were answering the queries of students.

Prof SK Vij, Dean Students' Welfare, who was also there at the event, found the response ‘emphatic'. "The response from the students has been good. They want to know more about the process and all their questions carried inquisitiveness. And I am really happy that Hindustan Times has put together such an event."

The event stood up to its tagline, "Walk in for admissions. Walk out with a career."
