Nalanda Open University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), the Ministry of HRD, the Government of India and the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). NOU is also a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the International Council of Open and Distance Education (ICDE) and the Asian Association of Open Universities (AAOU). Additionally, Nalanda Open University was established in 1987 under the ACT of Bihar Government, Nalanda Open University (NOU).

Patna University has a total of 10 constituent colleges. The MBA specialization in Sustainable Development Management at Nalanda University is well-regarded, emphasizing sustainability across various business aspects. The total tuition fee for the program is INR 1.17 lakhs for the whole course. The university accepts CAT/XAT/MAT scores for admission to the MBA program.
