How my course and college shaped my career in writing: Vagisha Arora
My college, Janki Devi Memorial, DU has played an instrumental role in shaping my career in writing. Pursuing English Honors as the mainstream subject in my graduation is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Undoubtedly, the dedicated lecturers of my college have helped me improve my writing skills significantly.
Being a literature student, proficiency in writing was something I couldnโt do away with. Gradual efforts and sincerity have helped me achieve indefeasible feats in my career. Reading always fascinated me but I was apprehensive about my ability to pen down my thoughts on a piece of paper. My lecturers helped me immensely in enhancing my writing style and motivating me to do better every single day.
You have to be a voracious reader and a great writer to be able to score well in your semester exams. This was the main challenge for me as I was from the Commerce background. The interactive and interesting literature lessons not only helped me to gain a lot but also improved my vocabulary and analytical skills. Literature is all about novels, poetry, plays and critical essays. Deep understanding of literature has played a major role in helping me learn various aspects of human society and behavior.
Apart from that, I had a lot of exposure to a range of co-curricular activities which included poetry writing, debate competitions and more. I explored myself further in writing by participating in these activities enthusiastically. No wonder, the three years of rigorous training have helped me achieve unexplored benchmarks in writing.
Every passing semester was a unique learning experience for me. Bridging the chasm between what I was and what I was capable of becoming would not have been easy without the guidance of my college lecturers. Timely submission of assignments and regular attendance in lectures helped me learn the nuances of communicating effectively and persuasively.
Writing is an art that can be nourished over a period of time. I explored the vast horizons of writing on various subjects in college days. It was not just about literature after the second year. It was about wanting to read anything that could help me grow.
Indeed, choosing BA English Honors in Janki Devi Memorial was a blessing in disguise for my career. Writing is an innate talent and I could only recognize it during my graduation days. I am grateful to the amazing faculty of my college for helping me stand out in the crowd.
As of now, I am working with Accenture as a Content Analyst. Also, I have worked as a freelancer with various popular platforms like Contentmart, Campusghanta and more. With over four years of experience in writing, I have explored myself in various niches like lifestyle, health, education, food, etc.ย All I can say is that writing liberates me in ways nothing else can.
