With CAT 2014 test will be held on Nov 16 and 22. Revisions are in full swing for the aspirants.

Key learnings from CAT 2014 first day

Almost 1.97 lakh candidates have registered for the exam this year. But do not get fazed by the big numbers. It is important to overcome exam day jitters and stay calm.

CAT 2014 exam pattern has witnessed a tremendous change. Candidates have to attempt 100 questions in 170 minutes. Thought the pattern has changed, please remember the testing canvas is same for everyone. Each CAT 2014 aspirant will be attempting the paper for the first time, thereby making the system fair for everyone.

β€œIn the last few days, it is important to consolidate whatever you have studied. Take time out to revise. Don't be in the lookout for new material every day, CAT will not test you on random new and fancy things. Whatever you have prepared over the last few months will be of utmost importance. Maintain composure during the test. Take control rather than let random emotions take over you. What's more important is you enjoy the journey so that you relish the destination rather than approach the journey and destination as a burden,” says Parasharanchari of Endeavor Careers.

Here are a few exam day checklist that the candidates should remember on the big day:

1) Carry both the original and a copy of your photo identity card. The ID should contain your recent photograph and signature. Photo ID cards that can be used for validation are:

  • College ID
  • Employer ID
  • Driving License
  • Passport
  • PAN Card
  • Voter ID
  • Aadhaar
  • UID

β€œThe candidate's photograph and signature images should be legibly printed and visible on the photo ID card and should match the name on Admit Card,” informs CAT 2014 official website.

2) In absence of photo ID card that contains your signature, download the affidavit available on the CAT 2014 website – β€œcandidate identification affidavit”. Fill up the form and get it signed from a notary.

3) Do not sign your CAT 2014 admit cards. The admit cards need to be signed inside the test centre, in presence of the invigilator. If you have already signed the admit card, destroy it and take out a fresh print out.

4) Admit cards should be printed on an A4 size paper using a laser printer only.

5) No personal items such as pen & pencil (stationary items), mobiles, watches, etc are allowed inside the test centre. Also, the centre will not provide any locker facility. So candidate’s need to make their own arrangement.

6) In case, the candidate’s name has changed due to any event (such as marriage, Divorce, Legal Name Change etc), one needs to submit a name change degree document (such as marriage certificate, divorce degree etc.) along with a notarised photocopy at the time of entering the test centre.

7) Please remember, no bio-breaks are allowed during the exam.

If I produce Voter Id as my Id proof and since it does not contain any signature do I have to submit the affidavit? I do have my pan card too but should I use it?, since the signature style is is different with the admit card. Please reply soon.

If Voter ID doesn't contain signature, you'll need to submit the affidavit. If your current signature doesn't match with the one on the PAN card, there's no point in producing it. I think it's better to use the affidavit as ID n signature document.
