38 students of Nagpur private school test positive for COVID-19
Around 38 students of a private school in Maharashtra's Nagpur have tested positive for COVID-19. The private school has turned into COVID-19 hotspot with this number of students testing positive for the virus. The district reported 262 fresh COVID-19 cases, including 100 infections from Nagpur city, with this now the overall tally to 5,69,690. So far, the total COVID-19 death toll stand at 10,339, as per an official release.
"Samples of the students of a private school in Jaitala area in Nagpur city were taken on Friday. As per the test results which became available on Sunday, 38 students have been found infected with coronavirus," a district health official said as reported by zeenews. At present, the Nagpur district has more than 1,221 active cases.
Meanwhile, as many as 147 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking its infection tally to 7,32,413, a health official said on Sunday. With the addition of the latest cases on Saturday; i.e. July 16, the district currently has 1,354 active Covid-19 cases, he said.
Maharashtra on Saturday reported 2,382 new COVID-19 infections and eight coronavirus-related deaths, the health department said. The caseload in the state rose to 80,17,205, and the death toll reached 1,48,023. As many as 40,128 people were tested for the virus during the day, taking the total of samples tested to 8,25,99,520.
The death toll in the district remained unchanged at 11,919, he said, adding that the recovery count has reached 7,18,986, the official added.
