Five Muslim students from the Hampanakatta University college have requested the transfer certificates from the administration after they were denied permission to attend the classes while wearing hijab. Principal Anusuya Rai has confirmed that they have asked for the transfer certificates so that they can join other colleges. However, they have been asked to submit another letter making certain corrections.

The Principal said that the administration will take a final call on issuing the certificates once the students submit the letters. The admission process to undergraduate courses will begin this week as the Karnataka 2nd PUC Result 2022 was announced on June 18, 2022.

Mangaluru University Vice-Chancellor PS Yadapaditaya had earlier announced that the university will make a special provisions for Muslim students who want to join other colleges in connection with the hijab rule.

In May, the Karnataka High Court had directed all colleges in the state to ban the wearing of religious clothing on campus, and a group of girl students had worn hijabs to college. After which the college authorities sent the students back home. In a video, principal Anusuya Rai was seen speaking with the students and telling them not to wear hijabs to college.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had urged the students to not kick up the hijab row again and abide by the government and High Court’s orders.

The students in question then approached District Collector Dr Rajendra KV to intervene. However, he said that institutions decide the dress code based on the government’s orders, and so declined to get involved.
