AICTE to no more give partial approval for technical courses to deemed universities
The council clarified that deemed to be universities can either take its full approval of all technical courses or continue without its approval.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued a circular stating that deemed universities cannot admit any student to their technical courses without obtaining the council’s full approval.
In a letter to the vice-chancellors of the deemed universities, the technical regulator said, “It has been noticed that some of the deemed to be universities have not yet taken approval from the AICTE and some deemed to be universities are taking partial approval of the AICTE for some selected technical courses/programmes only. All such universities shall require to obtain AICTE approval in the academic year 2022-23, otherwise the council shall be constrained to stop giving approval obtained partially to only few technical courses.”
The council informed deemed to be universities to either take full approval of all technical courses or continue without approval of the AICTE.
The AICTE has also issued show-cause notices to two private universities for offering degree and diploma courses in collaboration with edtech companies, terming the “outsourcing” a clear violation of norms. The council acted after it and the University Grants Commission (UGC) warned universities and colleges against offering courses in distance learning and online mode in association with edtech companies.
They had said no “franchise” agreement is permissible as per norms. The AICTE chairman had earlier clarified that the government is not against edtech companies, but they cannot be allowed to delve into areas that are not their domain.
