AIIMS Bhubaneswar: Satellite Centre to open soon in Balasore

Reports are emerging that All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar will get the Satellite Centre in Balasore soon. In the first phase, outpatient department (OPD) services will be provided and later indoor patient department (IPD) facilities will start commissioning.

Dr Mukesh Tripathi, Director of the AIIMS Bhubaneswar during his visit to Balasore said the OPD facility will start functioning at the Satellite Centre of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Subsequently, 300 beds will be added to the Satellite Centre, as reported by Sambad English.

"We will start OPD services at this centre. Initially, we will keep some necessary medical equipment like echocardiography and X-ray machines here. If the centre gets a good number of patients that need consultation from doctors of super-speciality departments, then we will send doctors from such departments to this centre. We will also start a telemedicine facility at the centre," said Tripathi, as reported by TOI.

OPD building construction is complete

"OPD services will be inaugurated at the satellite centre very soon. Construction of the OPD building has been completed. Services at the OPD will be available for one or two days a week initially as a sufficient number of doctors and staff are yet to join the facility," said an official of AIIMS Bhubneswar.

The decision to set up the Satellite Centre at AIIMS Bhubaneswar was taken by the Centre in 2013. The Odisha Cabinet had approved a proposal of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department to lease out 25-acre land under Remuna Tehsil in Balasore district free of cost in favour of the Department of Health & Family Welfare for the establishment of the Satellite Centre.
