Chief Minister Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has said Assam Budget 2022 includes a proposal to establish three new medical colleges at different places and a super-speciality hospital at IIT Guwahati.

Assam Budget 2022: Proposal to set up three new medical colleges

On Tuesday, the Assam Cabinet had approved the state budget for the year 2022-23 which will be presented today by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog. Now, Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has tweeted that there is a proposal to set up three new medical colleges at Sivasagar, Karimganj & Goalpara and also a super-speciality hospital at IIT Guwahati. 

He also added that the construction of medical colleges at Dhemaji, Bongaigon, Morigaon, Golaghat & Tamulpur will start in 2022.

Himanta Biswa Sarma's tweet reads, "Proposal to set up three new medical colleges at Sivasagar, Karimganj & Goalpara, along with a super-specialty hospital at IIT Guwahati. Construction of medical colleges at Dhemaji, Bongaigon, Morigaon, Golaghat & Tamulpur to start this year. #AssamBudget2022"

The Assam Budget 2022 also provides NABARD Infrastructure Development Assistance (NIDA) Fund of INR 50 crore each to Majuli University, Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhattadev University, Madhabdev University, Birangana Sati Sadhini State University and Aniruddhadev Sports University. 

"Our Govt has accorded immense priority to improving healthcare facilities. The new medical infrastructure announced in Assam Budget 2022 will surely go a long way in empowering health and education sectors besides bringing ancillary benefits," tweeted CM Assam.

The budget has announced the setting up of new universities and the upgradation of several colleges into universities. This is going to provide a huge boost to our education sector, he added.

Other highlights of Assam Budget 2022 

INR 4000 crore earmarked for Mukhya Mantri Souro Shakti Prokolpo to increase the generation of clean energy by installing solar power generation plants with an aggregated installed capacity of 1000 MW.

The financial outlay for setting up paddy procurement centres, rice servicing depots, mills, godowns, drier units, etc., will be key to revolutionising our agriculture sector and surely empower the farmer community, said the CM.

With sops for electric & CNG vehicles, adopting the Miyawaki model to extend green cover, and multi-level initiatives for the protection of Kaziranga National Park, the Assam Budget 2022 re-establishes our government's commitment towards the protection of the environment, he said.

832-hectare land acquisition for Kaziranga National Park. INR 48.08 crores for land compensation to 1,085 displaced families. Finalization of Eco-Sensitive Zone of integrated Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve.

Other announcements include extensive training and demonstration for the promotion of natural farming. International Year of Millets to be celebrated in 2023. Fodder Mission proposed to be set up.
